BRILLUX Lacryl Universal Primer 246
The BRILLUX Lacryl Universal Primer 246 is a water-based universal adhesion primer for undercoats and intermediate coats, indoors and outdoors. The primer is designed to provide good adhesion to a variety of substrates and combines fast drying with good filling properties and excellent coverage.
The BRILLUX Lacryl Universal Primer 246 is acrylic resin-based, low-odour, and has low emissions and contains few harmful substances. Once dry, the primer can be finished with either acrylic or alkyd resin paints as part of a suitable paint system.
Universally applicable adhesion primer
The BRILLUX Lacryl Universal Primer 246 can be applied as an undercoat and intermediate coat to a variety of substrates. This makes the product highly suitable for renovation, maintenance, and new painting projects.
The primer can be used on, among other surfaces:
-
Wood
-
Zinc
-
Galvanised surfaces
-
Primed surfaces
-
Bare aluminium
-
Overpaintable plastics
-
Intact existing paintwork
For zinc and galvanised surfaces, any subsequent finish with alkyd resin paints within a paint system may only be applied indoors.
Good adhesion and filling properties
The BRILLUX Lacryl Universal Primer 246 provides good adhesion and fills minor irregularities in the substrate. This creates an even base for the subsequent paint coats.
The primer has a matt finish and can be used as an intermediate coat when a suitable transition between the substrate and the topcoat is required.
Overpaintable with acrylic and alkyd resin paints
A major advantage of the BRILLUX Lacryl Universal Primer 246 is its wide range of applications within various paint systems.
At approximately 20 °C and 65% relative humidity, the product is:
-
After approximately 2–3 hours, overpaintable with acrylic paints
-
After approximately 12 hours, overpaintable with alkyd resin paints
At lower temperatures or higher humidity, longer drying times must be allowed for.

Application
The BRILLUX Lacryl Universal Primer 246 is suitable as an undercoat and intermediate coat in high-quality paint systems for, for example, window frames, doors, woodwork, metal components, and suitable plastic surfaces.
Its broad adhesion properties make the product particularly practical when different types of substrates need to be treated within a single project.
For wood that is finished in white or a light colour and where water-soluble substances may bleed through, BRILLUX recommends applying BRILLUX Isoprimer 243 as an undercoat. For wood that is rich in substances or contains knots, two coats of BRILLUX Isoprimer 243 may be necessary.
Application
The BRILLUX Lacryl Universal Primer 246 can be applied using:
-
Brush
-
Roller
-
Low-pressure sprayer
-
AirCoat
-
Airless
-
Battery-powered airless sprayer
If necessary, the product can be thinned with a maximum of approximately 5% water for brush or roller application. For certain spray applications, up to approximately 10% water may be added.
Coverage is approximately 90–120 ml/m² per coat. Actual coverage depends on the substrate and application method.
Do not apply the BRILLUX Lacryl Universal Primer 246 when the air or object temperature is lower than +5 °C. Clean tools with soap and water immediately after use.
Substrate preparation
The substrate must be firm, dry, clean, sound, and free from substances that may reduce adhesion.
Zinc and galvanised surfaces must be properly cleaned beforehand. Bare aluminium must be cleaned and sanded. Plastics must be prepared according to the applicable guidelines, and existing paint layers must be checked beforehand for adhesion and soundness.
