HEMPEL’S FAVOURITE VARNISH 01250

Hempel's Favourite Varnish is a transparent urethane alkyd varnish. This is a high-gloss, easy-to-use varnish that is both flexible and durable. Highly resistant to seawater, sunlight and adverse weather conditions.

What is it used for?
For use on both new wood and previously varnished wood, inside and outside, above the waterline.

Cleaning
- Remove oil, grease and other contaminants with a suitable detergent.

New construction:
- Untreated surface: Sand the surface and remove all dust.
- New wood: Impregnate the dry, clean surface with a suitable wood treatment product, but allow it to dry first.
- Plywood: Seal the dry, clean surface with a suitable wood sealer.
- Teak: Thoroughly degrease the surface with a suitable degreaser.

The surface must be dry and clean before application.
The moisture content of the wood must be below 16%. 

Maintenance and repair
- Previously painted surface: Sand, clean and dry the surface.
- Previously damaged varnished wood: Wood treatment may be necessary.

Keep dilution to an absolute minimum. The product can be applied by spraying.

Application conditions
- Prevent condensation by applying to a clean, dry surface at a temperature more than 3°C [5°F] above the dew point.
- Film formation may be adversely affected by light rain, high humidity and/or condensation during application and the following period after application: “3–4 hours, 20 °C/68°F”.

- Theoretical coverage                     16 m²/L

Relative humidity
- Relative humidity must be below 85% during drying and curing.

Notes
- Stir well before use.
- Apply the first coat thinned with the specified Hempel's Thinner: max. 20%.
- Apply a second coat thinned with the product: max. 10%
- Finally, apply 3 coats of undiluted product.
- If necessary, add thinner to aid application: max. 5%.
- To achieve a smooth surface, sanding between coats is recommended (remove dust).
- Previously painted surface: Apply 3 coats of undiluted product.

Product compatibility
- Previous coat: Recommended products are: Hempel's Wood Impreg (for new wood), Hempel's Sealer (for plywood)
- Subsequent coat: None.

Drying conditions
- To achieve the specified drying time, it is important to maintain sufficient ventilation during application, drying and curing.
- Condensation on freshly applied coating must be avoided.

Overcoating details
- If the maximum overcoating interval is exceeded, the surface must be roughened to ensure good adhesion between coats.

Other notes
- The surface must be clean before overcoating.

Storage conditions
- The product must be stored in accordance with local regulations, at 5°C [41°F], out of direct sunlight and protected from rain and snow.
