Trae Lyx Base Coat

Trae-Lyx Undercoat is a clear parquet primer. Thanks to the excellent isolating properties of Trae-Lyx Undercoat, the specific characteristics of various wood types are encapsulated while the colour and glow of the wood are enhanced. For a natural untreated look, e.g. as an undercoat beneath Natural (Extreme), we recommend Trae-Lyx Undercoat Natural. Trae-Lyx Undercoat prevents the wood from discolouring and keeps the raising of the wood fibres to a minimum.

Application

• Trae-Lyx Undercoat has a high solid content, high viscosity and good wetting properties.
• The wood and any small joints and gaps are well filled by Trae-Lyx Undercoat, resulting in a smooth surface for the subsequent layers of parquet varnish.
• The raising of the wood fibres is kept to a minimum. Trae-Lyx Undercoat prevents various wood types, such as certain types of oak, from darkening, which can sometimes occur when applying a water-based parquet varnish.
• Thick overlaps or locally applied layers that are too thick can also cause dark discolouration, which is prevented by applying Trae-Lyx Undercoat.
• Isolates substances found in some wood types (e.g. tannic acid), preventing unsightly streaks or discolouration.
• Intensifies the natural, warm tone of the wood, achieving a beautiful result.

Shelf life in the container: 2 years at a temperature between 5°C and 25°C, in the original unopened packaging.

Application details

Application method: Apply undiluted with a 7-9 mm microfibre roller (100 MU) or acrylic brush.

• Do not apply at a temperature lower than 5°C or a relative humidity higher than 85%.
• Good ventilation (without drafts) promotes drying.
• Do not sand the Trae Lyx Undercoat layer itself.
• Sanding should only take place after applying the first topcoat.
• When using multiple containers per coat, empty them into one container first and stir well.

Type of thinner: Water
Layer build-up: One coat of Trae-Lyx Undercoat is sufficient. Applying multiple coats is not recommended. Then apply 3 coats of Trae-Lyx Parquet-, Floor- or Project-Varnish or Trae-Lyx Natural.
Cleaning tools: Clean with (warm) water before they dry.

General treatment

The substrate must be clean, dry and free from grease (wax). Remove all old varnish residues completely.
