SIGMA S2U NOVA PRIMER

The Sigma S2U Nova Primer is a water-based interior primer based on polyurethane-acrylate and hybrid technology

What to use it for?
Interior
• Priming and overcoating of wood.
• Primer for various types of plastics.
• For overcoating steel and non-ferrous metals that have first been properly prepared with a suitable primer system.
• Also suitable for existing, intact and sanded paint layers

Available colours & packaging
Colours:
• White and virtually all colours according to the Sigma Voice of Colour fan and the Sigma Colour System C21.3 fan. Other colours can also be made.
Gloss level:
• Matt.

0.5 litres, 1 litre and 2.5 litres. 

Application

Basic data
• Density: approx. 1.37 kg/dm3
• Solid content: approx. 43 vol.%
• Dry film thickness: 30 µm (= approx. 70 µm wet) per coat
• Flash point: not applicable
Drying times determined at 23°C and 50% R.H.
• Dust dry after: approx. 1 hour*
• Tack-free after: approx. 3 hours*
• Recoatable after: approx. 4 hours*.
Multiple coats can be applied in one day.
When Sigma S2U Nova Primer is applied for isolation, two coats should be applied with a minimum drying time of 24 hours between the coats.
* Low temperature and high relative humidity delay through-drying.

Shelf life
Store dry in the original closed packaging at a temperature between 5°C and 30°C for at least 12 months.

Coverage
Theoretical coverage
• Dry film thickness 30 µm: 14 m²/litre.
Practical coverage
• Practical coverage depends on several factors, such as the shape of the object, condition and profile of the surface, application method and experience.

Application conditions
For good film formation (through-drying), the following conditions must be met during application and drying:
- Substrate and ambient temperature between 7°C and 25°C.
- Relative humidity at least 60% and at most 85%.
- Good ventilation.
- Substrate dry and clean.

Systems

1. Wood, industrially treated with an opaque PPG Wood Finishes system (KVT concept 1)
   • Thoroughly clean and carefully sand.
   • Overcoat with Sigma S2U Nova Primer.
   • Finish with Sigma S2U Nova Satin, Sigma S2U Nova Semi-Gloss or Sigma S2U Nova Gloss.
2. Existing intact paint layers (acrylate or alkyd resin)
   • Thoroughly clean and carefully sand.
   • Overcoat with Sigma S2U Nova Primer.
   • Finish with Sigma S2U Nova Satin, Sigma S2U Nova Semi-Gloss or Sigma S2U Nova Gloss.
3. Untreated wood
   • Thoroughly clean.
   • Prime with Sigma S2U Nova Primer.
   • Overcoat with Sigma S2U Nova Primer.
   • Finish with Sigma S2U Nova Satin, Sigma S2U Nova Semi-Gloss or Sigma S2U Nova Gloss.
4. Isolating wood with water-soluble extractives
   • Thoroughly clean.
   • Prime twice with Sigma S2U Nova Primer. Allow a drying time of at least 24 hours between the coats.
   The extractives may cause discoloration of the first layer of Sigma S2U Nova Primer. After applying the second layer, no discoloration will be visible.
   • Finish with Sigma S2U Nova Satin, Sigma S2U Nova Semi-Gloss or Sigma S2U Nova Gloss.
   Note:
   Due to the wide variety of wood qualities, a test area should first be prepared to assess the isolating effect.
5. Plastic
   • Thoroughly clean and carefully roughen.
   • Prime with Sigma S2U Nova Primer.
   • Finish with Sigma S2U Nova Satin, Sigma S2U Nova Semi-Gloss or Sigma S2U Nova Gloss.
   Note:
   Due to the wide variety of plastics, a test area should first be prepared to assess the adhesion.
   

Instructions for use
• Stir the paint thoroughly before use.
• Brush / paint roller
• Thinning: Thinning is not necessary. If desired, max. 5 vol.% tap water
• Note: Always roll large areas or use a roller. This provides an even surface with
a fine texture and camouflages small imperfections.
